USE STANDARDS WITH LEGAL CERTAINTY
Standards are works protected under copyright law. By buying an ÖNORM standard, for example, you acquire utilization rights and can use the document – in line with the license agreement.
Standards are protected by copyright. If a standard is purchased as a single document, the document may only be used at one workstation and by one person for copyright reasons. As soon as several colleagues work with a standard, usage licenses are required.
Austrian Standards offers solutions so that you can access your standards within your company in a legally compliant manner. You can take out user licenses for your standards - depending on the number of employees, locations, number of documents and rule setters. MANAGE YOUR STANDARDS DIGITALLY - YOUR BENEFITS AT A GLANCE
Copyright protects the rights of the creator of the work. Similar to music and image rights, standards are also protected by copyright. Reproduction, whether copying, printing, filming, or scanning, requires an agreement.
Copyrights pertaining to standards can be infringed in various ways within a company. Here are a few examples:
Making standards available digitally, e.g.
- Provision of access on network drives
- Provision of access via document management systems
- Publication on the intranet
- Publication on websites on the internet
Reproducing and transferring of standards internally and externally, e.g.
- Taking over of text from standards
- Transfer by e-mail
- Passing on by means of data media (memory sticks, CDs, etc.)
- Digitization (scanning, copying, photographing, etc.)
Editing of standards, e.g.
- Translation into other languages
When standards are used, attention must therefore be paid to which usage licenses exist (single-user or multi-user license) and how acquired standards may be used without infringing copyright.
An exception applies to standards that are part of laws or regulations. They are not subject to copyright, as they are part of a legal provision and are therefore a free work within the meaning of copyright law. Such standards may therefore be used without restriction and without consent.
